What We’ve Been Working On: New Cypher Rules, CypherCon, and a New Setting

We were thrilled to receive the backer release of the new Cypher Character Rulebook, along with the Early Access version of the Cypher GM Guide. Since receiving them, we have been carefully cross-referencing the updated rules with the material in the Chaos Uncovered Saga. Our goal is to make sure the adventures remain accurate, compatible, and ready to take full advantage of the newest version of the Cypher System.

We are also eagerly awaiting the release of the updated open license. Once it becomes available, we should have a clearer picture of the final steps needed to bring the Chaos Uncovered Saga across the finish line.

Meanwhile, we have another exciting project underway.

Red River RPG has signed up to run two game sessions during CypherCon 2026 in August! Rather than bringing an existing adventure, we decided to use the opportunity to introduce players to something entirely new.

That adventure is The Saint of Burgas, a pulp mystery and supernatural horror scenario set in post–World War I Europe during the mid-1920s. The characters are sent to the Bulgarian port city of Burgas, where reports of miracles, unrest, and a mysterious local figure draw the attention of an organization accustomed to confronting things the rest of the world is not prepared to acknowledge.

The Saint of Burgas will also serve as an introduction to a new setting currently in development: Order of the Holy Reviled.

Order of the Holy Reviled explores a world in which miracles are real, monsters endure, and faith possesses genuine power. In the shadows of postwar Europe, the Church maintains a secret order composed of condemned people, cursed souls, and supernatural beings. Bound by sacred oaths and instruments of penance, these unlikely operatives are sent to confront threats the Church cannot publicly acknowledge…and missions from which conventional heroes might never return.

The setting combines pulp adventure, historical mystery, Gothic horror, secret societies, religious intrigue, and morally complicated characters. It is a world of ruined monasteries, forgotten battlefields, hidden relics, unreliable miracles, and ancient things stirring beneath a continent still recovering from the Great War.

We are still early in the development process, but the ideas are coming together quickly and, more importantly, beginning to land on paper. Characters are taking shape, mysteries are deepening, and the world of the Order is becoming clearer with every new page.

We cannot wait to introduce CypherCon players to The Saint of Burgas this August and to share more about Chaos Uncovered and Order of the Holy Reviled as development continues.
